Convertible Jet Pumps that Take the Stress Out of Owning a Well

What are Convertible Jet Pumps?

Convertible jet pumps or well pumps help draw water from wells, nearby reservoirs, and water bodies without a municipality connection. These can also be used for irrigation in lawns, creating pressure in sprinkler systems, and for watering crops. Typically, these are used either in shallow (25 feet) or deep (80-100 feet) wells and create enough pressure to pull water from them. Convertible jet pumps can be used in both domestic and commercial locations. The Franklin Electric jet pumps and Sta-Rite jet pumps are two popular pumps of this type available in the market.

A jet pump consists of a nozzle and a venturi that work in tandem to create the pressure required to pull water. Depending on the required use, convertible jet pumps have the different horsepower. For domestic use, ½ HP works best, while ¾ HP is better for commercial use.

A good convertible jet pump should be made of strong material so that it lasts long and is weather-proof. It is always best to abide by the manufacturer’s guidelines to keep your pump in shape.

Features and benefits of Franklin Electric’s Convertible Pro (RM2) Series

The convertible jet pumps from Franklin Electric’s RM2 series can lift and transport up to 23 gallons of water per minute from shallow or deep wells. These pumps are non-submersible and are installed above ground. They have a durable cast iron body, which increases their longevity and come installed with a forged bronze impeller.

The Franklin Electric jet pumps in the RM2 series are the two models,  Franklin Electric 91140005 and Franklin Electric 91110882. The differences between the two models lie in their horsepower and weight. While the 91140005 jet pump boasts of a ½ HP and weighs at 48 lbs, the 91110882 RM2 model operates at ¾ HP with a weight of 51 lbs. The rest of their features are the same.

The two models have 56C-frame motors. These pumps have molded thermoplastic diffusers and shaft coupling. The mechanical shaft seal makes sure that there is no leakage during the pumping process. The models come with a switch as well to adjust the pressure. They also come with a screw-in injector that assists in conversion from shallow to deep well applications. The maximum temperature for drawing water from these Franklin Electric pumps is 140°F or 60°C. They have a 1-¼ inches NPT suction and a 1-inch NPT driveline.

Features and benefits of Sta-Rite FL Series Convertible Jet Pumps

The Sta-Rite jet pumps in the FL series have a convertible design. The jet or nozzle can be attached to the pump to use in shallow and deeper well installations.

There are two models in the FL series: the FLC-L  and the FLD-L convertible well jet pumps. The FLC-L is weighed at 44 lbs and has a horsepower of ½ HP. Its shut-off pressure is 54-84 PSI.

The FLD-L, on the other hand, has shut-off pressure at 54-96 PSI. It weighs 45 lbs and operates at ¾ HP.

The Sta-Rite jet well pumps in the FL series can go up to 90 feet in depth to draw water. They are described as being best for farm or home irrigation systems. The casing of these jet pumps is in treated cast iron that prevents corrosion. They come with a Lexan impeller that is molded and promotes efficiency. The diffuser is precision-molded as well.

The pressure regulator in the pump is in-built and adjustable for deep wells. A mechanical shaft seal of carbon-ceramic and steel ensures that there is no leakage, but ample lubrication is present. Motor winding is made of insulated material to protect against moisture. The jet pumps consist of heavy-duty and permanently lubricated ball bearings for a smooth run. The pump itself and the motor shaft is made of stainless steel to prevent corrosion. The balanced rotor has been diecast under high pressure. Lastly, the dust-proof covers of the Sta-Rite FL jet pumps give them maximum protection. This ensures that there is no contamination from outside particles, dirt, and dust to prevent motor failure.
